Virginia Pre-School Initiative/Bright Beginnings Program
Thank you for your interest in the Appomattox County Public Schools Pre-K program, Bright Beginnings. The Pre-K Bright Beginnings program is grant-funded through the Virginia Preschool Initiative. Children are selected to attend our program based on income eligibility and other risk factors determined by Appomattox County Public Schools. Completion of all application steps are required for your child's application to be processed fully and your child to be considered for our program.

How old does my child have to be in order to be eligible for the PreK Bright Beginnings Program?
The child must be four years old on or before September 30th of the coming school year to enroll in Pre-K Bright Beginnings.
What do I need to do to get my child into the PreK Bright Beginnings program?
Complete all application steps on the Bright Beginnings application. Funding only allows a limited number of students to be served and your application will not be processed until all information is provided. You will be notified in July of your child’s standing.
What is acceptable evidence for proof of residency?
A deed, mortgage, rental agreement, electric bill or water bill.
What other documents do I need to gather to submit with my application?
You will also need to supply an original birth certificate, the three most recent pay stubs for all adults in the household that are currently employed and verification of all benefits and services received. If your child is accepted into the Bright Beginnings program, you will need to turn in an updated Physical and Immunization Record prior to the first day of school.
How is PreK Bright Beginnings placement determined?
The PreK program is grant-funded through the Virginia Preschool Initiative and space is limited. Children are selected based on income eligibility and other risk factors.
Is it possible for my child to attend Appomattox County Public Schools PreK Bright Beginnings program if we do not live in Appomattox County?
Due to PreK funding requirements, students in the PreK program must reside in Appomattox County.
If we move to another county, can my child remain at his/her current school?
No, due to funding, a student must reside in Appomattox County to attend the PreK Bright Beginnings program.
When will I know if my child has been selected to participate in the PreK Bright Beginnings program?
Notification of acceptance is typically completed by the second week of July. If you have questions, please call Appomattox Primary School.
